Juhannus on saariston suurin juhla (scroll down for English post)! Näin kerrottiin Ulla-Lena Lundbergin Finlandia-palkinnon voittaneessa, saariston elämää kuvanneessa Jää-romaanissa. Ja niin on myös Porvoon saaristossa sijaitsevassa saarihuvilassamme. Juhannusta juhlitaan – sallii sää tai ei. Tänä vuonna jouduimme viileän sään vuoksi siirtymään sisätiloihin ja rakentamaan kymmenen hengen ruokapöydän pienikokoiseen huvilaamme. Hyvinhän se meni! Kattauksen palaset valittiin jo alkukesästä ja sen värin määräsi päivällisen kohokohta mansikka-marenkikakku.
Mansikat ja marengit määräsivät myös muuten kattausta: plaseerauskortit olivatkin hammastikulla yhdistetyt marenkipala, mansikka ja kakkupaperipalaan piirretty kirjain. Punainen kertakäyttöpöytäliina oli Dunin. Note to self: värillinen kertakäyttöpöytäliina näyttää kattauksessa paremmalta kuin valkoinen. Pöydän kukkakoristeeksi tuli kolmea eri väriä olevat terttuneilikat: valkoista, punaista ja puna-valkoista. Kertakäyttölautaset olivat miellyttävä uusi tuttavuus: Red Dot Design Awardin voittanut Pebble-sarja. Punaisen teeman mukaiset servietit olivat Ihr:n Geraldine sekä Marimekon Varvunraita ja Tiiliskivi. Servietit vaihtelivat paikoittain. Penkit koristeltiin kakkupapereilla. Kattoon kiinnitettiin Ikean valkoinen paperipallo koristeeksi.
Midsummer is the biggest celebration of the year in the nordic archipelago, I have read from an award winning Finnish book that describes the life in the archipelago. And so it is in our villa in the Porvoo archipelago in Finland. We celebrate midsummer whatever the weather. This year we had to stay indoors because of the chilly weather and arrange a table for ten people inside our miniature-size villa. And the outcome was great I think. The pieces of the table setting were chosen early in the summer and the dinner's high point, strawberry meringue cake, determind the colors of the table.
The strawberries and the meringue set the table setting in other ways also: the place card was a strawberry and a meringue plus a piece of a cake paper with a letter on it all together by a tooth pick. the red disposable table cloth is by Duni. Note to self: a colorful disposable tablecloth looks better than a white one. The flowers of the table are cluster carnations of three different colors: white, red and white and red. The disposable plates were a nice new acquiantance by Duni Pabble, a Red Dot Design Award winner. The paper napkins of the red and white theme were Geraldine by Ihr and Tiiliskivi and Varvunraita by Marimekko. The napkins varied by the place. The benches were decorated by cake paper. Notice the decoration ball by Ikea in the ceiling.
